David Murphy stroked a go-ahead single in the third and Alexi Ogando gave up one hit in two innings of relief as Detroit lost to Texas, 15-5. The Tigers are bounced four games to two and are eliminated from the ALCS.
The Tigers got on the board first in the top of the first when Miguel Cabrera put one in the stands for a solo home run off starter Derek Holland.
Tied 2-2, the Rangers grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the third when Murphy drove in Mike Napoli and Adrian Beltre with a single off reliever Daniel Schlereth. Then Ian Kinsler got a single off reliever Rick Porcello, scoring Murphy and Nelson Cruz. The scoring ended when Michael Young drove in Elvis Andrus and Kinsler with a double off reliever Porcello to bring the score to 8-2 and knock Porcello from the ballgame.
Max Scherzer went 2 1/3 innings, picking up his first loss of the postseason after a turbulent performance in which he was roughed up for six runs on five hits with one strikeout and four walks. Ogando (2-0) got the win, allowing no runs on one hit over two innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
Cabrera was powerful at the plate for the Tigers, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. Young went 3 for 6 with five RBIs and two runs in the win.
